Fundació Antoni Tąpies

Fundació Antoni Tąpies, housed in a Modernist building in Barcelona’s Eixample district, was established in 1984 by the artist Antoni Tąpies for the purpose of promoting the study and knowledge of modern and contemporary art. The Foundation organises temporary exhibitions, lectures and film seasons in order to contribute to a better understanding of contemporary art and culture, as well as possessing one of the most complete collections of works by Antoni Tąpies.

  • 05 March 2010 - 02 May 2010 ANTONI TĄPIES. THE PLACES FOR ART

After the reopening of the building, the Fundació Antoni Tąpies recommences its activities with an exhibition of works dating from all the different creative periods of Antoni Tąpies, with special emphasis on his most recent production as well as a selection of works from the artist’s private collection.

  • 14 May 2010 - 01 August 2010 EVA HESSE. STUDIOWORK

Solo exhibition of the work by the German-born North-American artist Eva Hesse (1936–1970). The exhibition will include a large number of small experimental works often regarded as ‘test pieces’, on the assumption that they must have been preparatory works for her ‘large-scale sculptures’. This exhibition, however, will prove how the recently renamed ‘Studiowork’ reveals important aspects of Hesse’s work.

  • 14 May 2010 - 01 August 2010 ANIMA MATRIX: BRACHA ETTINGER AND RIA VERHAEGHE

This exhibition juxtaposes the artistic practices of Bracha Ettinger (Israel/France, 1951), who reflects on representation and the gaze through the manipulation of documents from her professional practice as a psychoanalyst, and Ria Verhaeghe (Belgium, 1950), who tries to give relevance to the anonymity she detects in the plethora of today’s images. Through both their works we can find ethical and aesthetic convergences.
